In Pakistan matters of adultery and even rape fall under the jurisdiction of Islamic religious law rather than the national Pakistani penal code. According to a recent report in the New York Times, “Under the Hudood Ordinance, enacted in 1979 by Gen. Mohammad Zia ul-Haq, then the president, thousands of women, in particular the poor and illiterate, have been jailed for adultery on the flimsiest evidence, often when a former husband refuses to recognize a divorce, or even when a woman has reported being raped.”

Our wonderment is most profound in the case of Showtime's "Sexual Healing" (Fridays at 10 p.m.), a reality series hosted by Dr. Laura Berman, a sex therapist who treats real couples on air. Not only should you not watch this show with children around, you should not — unless your embarrassment threshold is higher than most — even watch it with your spouse.”
The reviewer sounds a bit prudish to me. For example, Amy seems scandalized by the following: “In one recent edition of the program, couples attended loopy group-sex seminars in a setting similar to Lamaze class. In another, irony-laden sequence, a young woman revealed to a vast television audience that she was embarrassed to bare her breasts to her husband.”

A recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive revealed that 84 percent of the respondents said physical intimacy was more important than having enough money (72 percent) or good health (78 percent). However, over half rated their intimate physical relationship as unsatisfactory. Like their bulging waists, graying hair and weathering skin, the boomer’s sexual health is also showing the scourge of aging.”
